SUMMARY:Lenore. / Cave Clove at Mississippi Studios
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 11: Lenore.\, Cave Clove\nMississippi Studios\nDoors at 6:30pm / Show at 7:00pm. Tickets: $8 ADV / $10 DOS. \nThe coming together of Rebecca Marie Miller & Joy Pearson as Portland\, Oregon folk outfit\, Lenore.\, is serendipitous\, to say the least.\nAfter individually hitting rock bottom — Pearson following a divorce and Miller after a period of destitution in LA — the pair separately turned to songwriting in the search for a still point in their turning worlds. After years of lending their abilities to other projects\, including Saddle Creek’s The Mynabirds & Portland’s own High Water Jazz Band\,\nthey finally found themselves spinning on the same axis when a chance meeting through a mutual friend\, Pokey LaFarge\, sparked an immediate connection. A drunken night ensued & before they’d even scoped each other’s material\, they had committed.\nhttps://www.lenoresings.com/

DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November. 9: Bitch’n / Wild Powwers / Moon Tiger \nHolocene\nDoors: 8:00pm / Show: 8:30pm. Tickets: $8. 21+. \nBitch’n\nWhat happens when you combine the female forces behind projects such as Duover\, Orquestra Pacifico Tropical\, Point Juncture WA\, Ioa\, Great Wilderness\, and Sallie Ford? This is where Bitch’n brews. The fresh\, all-woman punk-meets-pop five-piece came together in spring 2015\, recording epic free jams that they later wrote lyrics over. Including Rebecca Rasmussen\, Amanda Spring\, Emily Overstreet\, Nefertiti Porter\, and Shana Lindbeck. Bitch’n is equal parts Fugazi and Tom Tom Club\, with the playfulness of Dirty Projectors and Hot Chip\, keeping it bumpin’ with catchy songs accented by dark bass\, psych-pop guitars and keys\, driving drum beats\, and all five women’s voices singing and sometimes shouting in unison. Experimental in nature\, Bitch’n expertly weave a tapestry through their songs\, keeping the project from falling into a single box\, while simultaneously following a cohesive thread. – PORTLAND MERCURY \nhttps://www.facebook.com/bbandpdx/ \nWild Powwers\nThis dynamic trio has been staying busy touring\, while anticipating the release of their third album\, “Skin”\, recorded by the legendary Billy Anderson\, (Jawbreaker\, Melvins\, Neurosis). Their three years as a band has brought them around the country twice\, playing festivals such as SXSW and Savannah Stopover Fest\, opening for amazing bands like The Fall Of Troy\, Kylesa\, Dilly Dally\, Helms Alee and No Age and playing such venues as The Fonda Theater and The Fillmore. WILD POWWERS has developed a glam creep strut that we have come to love them for. Get into it. \nhttp://wildpowwers.com/ \nMoon Tiger\nWe are Moon Tiger. 3 part harmonies\, guitar\, bass\, drums & accordion. Deep\, dark\, light and full of soul. Rising from the ashes of Miss Murgatroid\, Ether\, Freaky Visions\, a marching band in Ojai\, CA and our own inhibitions. We are here to rock you. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/MoonTigerMusic/

SUMMARY:Paper Bird w/ Ballroom Thieves
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 10: Paper Bird w/ Ballroom Thieves \nMississippi Studios \nDoors at 8:00pm. Show at 9:00pm\nwww.mississippistudios.com\nFor Paper Bird\, their new album marks a milestone. More importantly\, it provides them with a new beginning\, a new chapter in their trajectory that sees them redefining their direction\, a change in their musical sensibility while maintaining their trademark upbeat attitude. The band’s self titled album\, available September 9th on Thirty Tigers Records/ Sons of Thunder Records\, introduces vocalist Carleigh Aikins to the lineup\, whose previous credits include extended stints with the critically acclaimed bands Bahamas and Fox Jaws. Her addition to the band adds an extra edge\, highlighting a clear sonic evolution. A shift in the band’s lineup has opened up new possibilities\, swapping electric guitars and amped up instrumentation for the laid back\, folkflavored sound they favored in the past.\nhttp://www.paperbirdband.com/ \n\nFor The Ballroom Thieves\, the band’s journey has only just begun\, but their roots already run quite deep. Now\, on A Wolf in the Doorway the Thieves find themselves taking the very idea of “roots” and creating ways to make its associated sound progress\, while making its encompassing spirit glow. Stylistically\, the trio finds a captivating mélange of acoustic styles\, blending folk conventions with modern hymnals\, delta blues grit with rich harmonies\, exploring the basic constructions of pop music while almost wholeheartedly rejecting its restrictions at the same time. \n\nhttp://www.ballroomthieves.com/
