Emcee: Belinda Carroll 

Belinda Carroll is a Portland, Oregon native, LGBTQ activist, and coffee addict. A stand-up comedian, actress, and singer, she has appeared on fun stuff like Portlandia, MTV, XM Sirius radio ,and Grimm. Her writing credits include Huffington Post, Cracked.com, and PQ Monthly. She also has opened or featured for people like Shane Mauss, Erasure (Andy Bell), Jason Stuart, Julie Goldman, Deanne Smith, ANT, Dwight Slade, and Laurie Kilmartin.

STORYTELLERS

Charise Mericle Harper is the author and Illustrator of over fifty books for children, including picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels. Originally from Vancouver, B.C., Charise spent many years in Chicago and New York, and is happy to be waking up on the west coast again! Her upcoming books for 2017 include The Amazing Crafty Cat (a graphic novel), The Doodle Book of Feel Good (a doodle coloring book), Mae and June and the Wonder Wheel (a chapter book), and The Good for Nothing Button (an Elephant and Piggie–like reading book). In her spare time, Charise enjoys coffee, making things, and collecting string.

Josie Seid is an actress and a playwright. She most recently appeared as Lina Darling in Lakewood theater’s production of Nine and just before that, as Lola in the highly anticipated Cottonwood in the Flood, part of the 2016 Vanport Mosaic Festival. Josie’s favorite roles include Viney in Artists Rep’s lauded production of The Miracle Worker, as well as being a member of the Drammy Award–winning ensemble for The Brother / Sister Plays at Portland Playhouse. Josie grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she fanned the flames of creativity at The School for Creative and Performing Arts. She has been active in Portland theater since 2003. Also look for Josie’s plays as a member of LineStorm PlayWrights.

Reba Sparrow is the executive producer, story coach, and co-host of The Mystery Box Show (Portland’s only sex-centric storytelling show), as well as an actor, holistic health coach, and a mom!

Jeni Wren Strottup is a musician, writer, podcast producer and activist based in Portland, Oregon. A life long creative, Wren Stottrup released her first EP, North Star in 2013 after being noted as a member of Willamette Week “Best New Band 2013” Shy Girls.  She is a a radio producerat XRAY.FM, Regional Arts and Culture Council grant recipient, former board member of PDX Pow Now! and contributor to Portland Mercury, Vortex Music Magazine and more.  She is featured frequently as a speaker and panelist.

Gritty Birds is an independent music podcast and XRAY.FM radio series. This American Life meets music, these are the stories of the gritty artists and industry players successfully navigating the music world today. In spring 2016 the show relaunched, featuring artists at Boise’s Treefort Festival(YACHT, Diarrhea Planet) in a partnership with XRAY.FM.

Gritty Birds moved to a storytelling format after being honored with a Fall 2016 Regional Arts and Culture Council Grant to attend Podcast Movement. It now includes a monthly live show strong multimedia presence, uniting audio with video. Guests have included Ezra Furman, Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, American Icon Founder Jonny Galyon, 90s Pop Artist Ken Stringfellow (The Posies), Tender Loving Empire co-founder Jared Mees,Directress Alicia Rose and more.
